2021 Home safety Precautions for Caregivers of Colorectal Cancer Patients under Chemotherapy International Journal of Nursing and Medical Science (IJNMS);
Background: Chemotherapy is given in outpatient clinics and at home, it is extremely important that caregivers and patients understand the risks and hazards that household members may be exposed to. Aim: aims of this study are to assess home safety precautions for caregivers of colorectal cancer patients under chemotherapy Design: Descriptive research design was used in this study. Sample: convenient sample includes 100 caregivers of patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer under chemotherapy. Setting: Outpatient clinics in El-minya oncology center. Tools one tool: interviewer questioner include patient and caregivers socio-demographic characteristics, caregivers knowledge and reported practice Results: The majority of caregivers had incorrect knowledge regarding home safety precautions of chemotherapy . The majority of care givers done practice due to continuous asking the doctors about instruction of give chemotherapy at home. The study showed that,49.0% of caregivers had corrected answers about methods of administration of chemotherapy .84.0% of caregivers had in corrected answer about meaning of colon and rectal cancer . 65% of caregivers poor knowledge 20% of them average knowledge and 15% of them good knowledge regarding home safety precautions of chemotherapy at home .The study showed that, 100.0% of patient done practice about asking the physician about clear dosing instructions. Conclusion: The current study revealed that the studied sample had unsatisfactory level of knowledge about safety precautions at home of colorectal cancer patients under chemotherapy The majority of them done practice regarding home safety precautions of chemotherapy at home. Recommendations: Continues health educational programs to all caregivers of patients with colorectal cancer under chemotherapy at home that help them to improve patients awareness to ward home safety precautions of chemotherapy and general health condition.
