20260607 nvestigating the Impact of Socio-Cultural Factors on English Language Teaching Methods in Iraq مجلة جامعة الكوت
Abstract This study examines how the socio-cultural factors affect the methods of English language teaching in Iraq, especially the influence of cultural values on English language teaching, social norms, family influence, and the community expectations on English language teaching. The researcher employed a mixed-methods research design approach that involved the qualitative data gathered from the interviews and classroom observations and the quantitative data gathered from surveys and questionnaires. This enabled the study to see how socio-cultural contexts and English language education were connected with a holistic perspective. The results show that socio-cultural factors have a significant impact on the instructional strategies, interaction in the classroom, curriculum implementation, and students' motivation to learn English in school. For teachers, teaching styles may vary from one culture to another to address the differences in their students' educational and social background. However, the study also revealed a number of problems: interlingual differences of students' language abilities, insufficient family involvement, and the challenges of meeting the cultural needs of students while still meeting international educational standards. The study also reveals the opportunities for the improvement of English language teaching through a culturally responsive pedagogy, community engagement and continuous teacher professional development. The results of the study show that if socio-cultural issues are considered in both the policy and classroom level, it can be a key factor in the success of the implementation of English language education in Iraq. The results offer practical recommendations to teachers, curriculum designers and decision makers in the field of English language teaching and learning that does not ignore the cultural atmosphere of Iraqi learners
