2021 Teenage Mothers Awareness of Domestic Hazards for Children under the Age of Five International Journal of Nursing and Medical Science (IJNMS);2020;9(3);16-36
Background: Teenage Mothers is a pregnancy in girls 10–19 years of age. It is estimated that about 16 million girls 15–19 years old give birth each year, paying nearly 11% of all births worldwide. Aim: This study aimed to assess teenage mothers' awareness of domestic hazards for children under five years. Design: Descriptive research design is used. Sample: A convenient sample used in this study. Sample size: 100 teenage mothers. Setting: Study conducted at (Sindecees , AL Mootamadiaa and Nemra al pasal ) MCH at Al Mahalla city, Gharbya governmetal . Two tools: 1stStructural interviewing questionnaire composed of five parts (Socio-demographic characteristics, Teenage mothers knowledge about domestic hazards, Teenage mothers reported practices, Teenage mothers sample attitude& Home environmental reported by mothers). Results: 45% of teenage mothers had poor knowledge about domestic hazards; also 20% of teenage mothers had good knowledge about domestic hazards. 60% of teenage mothers have unsatisfactory practice toward domestic hazards and 40% of teenage mothers have satisfactory practice toward domestic hazards.55% of teenage mothers have negative attitude regarding domestic hazards also 45% of teenage mothers have positive attitude regarding domestic hazards. Positive relation between demographic characteristics of parent and a total knowledge, attitude and practice. Conclusion: 45%of teenage mothers had poor knowledge about domestic hazards also 20% of teenage mothers had good knowledge about domestic hazards .60% of teenage mothers had unsatisfactory practice toward total score practice regarding domestic hazards .40% of teenage mothers had satisfactory practice .55% of teenage mothers had negative attitude regarding domestic hazards also 45% of teenage mothers had positive attitude regarding domestic hazards. Positive relation between demographic characteristics of parents attitude, knowledge& practice Recommendations: Implementing health programs like workshops help in improving teenage mothers' awareness of domestic hazards for children under five years, Educational program for all family about hazards of domestic hazards for children under five years, Apply Further research about teenage mothers awareness of domestic hazards for children under the age of five in other setting for generalization and Facilitation and suggested health programs that would help teenage mothers to avoid domestic hazards.
